Meeting / Event Venues

Like hotels, conference centers are making strides to become more environmentally responsible.  Use these tips to make sure your choice is a sound one, and to encourage your venue to become greener.

  • Choose a venue that’s connected to the airport by mass transit, and within walking distance of the hotel.
  • Ask if the venue has an environmental policy and/or plan.  Request a copy.
  • Find out what in-house environmental programs the venue offers.  Print and send this venue checklist (DOC file) to prospective suppliers.
  • Perform a site visit to verify that your environmental service requirements can be met.
  • Find out if the venue has had any environmental audits performed in the last 5 years.  Ask to see the reports.
  • Include a BlueGreen Preference clause in your venue Request for Proposals.  Click here for a sample (DOC file).
  • Choose a venue that is interested in doing more to become green.  A willingness to cooperate will make your task so much easier.
  • If the venue will also be providing your meals, be sure to read the BlueGreen page on Food & Beverage.
  • Ask the venue manager to suggest off-site activities that are nature-based, with minimal impact to the local environment.
