By including your exhibitors and facility in your greening efforts, you can cut down on a lot of unnecessary waste.

  • Create signage that can be reused in future events.
  • Provide ‘reuse’ collection bins for delegate name tags.
  • Tell your exhibitors about your greening plan.  Get them involved by asking them to:
    • Print their collateral materials on recycled paper stock, using vegetable-based inks;
    • Bring only what they need to the event, and take away what they don’t hand out; and
    • Have their draws support the BlueGreen theme.  Suggest they give away items that are made from recycled materials, durable, reusable, etc.
    • Promote their own environmental initiatives.
  • Bring the facility on board too.  Request that:
    • On site recycling is provided for paper products, pop cans and other recyclable materials that are generated;
    • Choose decorations and display materials that can be reused.  Inquire at local schools or charitable organizations prior to the event if they would like to receive used decorations;
    • Clean-up crews be trained to sort out recyclable and reusable items from the garbage; and
    • Display booths be created using recycled material, and be reusable.
  • If food is involved, see the BlueGreen Food & Beverage page.
  • Make sure your exhibition venue is doing all it can to be environmentally responsible.  See the Meeting/Event Venues page for tips and tools.

  The 1997 APEC Summit, held in Vancouver, minimized waste at its Trade Show. Show staff wore removable APEC pins, so their generic uniform blazers could be used again. Live plants were used for decoration, and donated to a local charity following the event
